Info: Concerned Women for America (CWA) Website Greetings, The situation of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani is, most certainly, a very horrific one. However, unfortunately, much of the information provided by CWA is either inaccurate, misleading, or simply false. I have full sympathy for Ashtiani, and the suffering she has endured. But the way you treat the case, it is most clear that you have no understanding of the political situation of Iran. The article said, "Like many other Americans, my family took 10 minutes on July 4th to read the Declaration of Independence. Of particular relevance is the section where America's founders wrote, 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...'" Are you not aware that the law for the execution of Ashtiani was legislated by American political powers and was enforced by American military? In 1953, a joint military operation between the US and Britain, titled "Operation Ajax," led to the establishment of a colony of these two world powers, controlled by an Islamic-Monarchic administration -- which was hand-picked by the US government. It's somewhat ridiculous, then, to associate documents of American tradition with the liberty of oppressed women in Iran. The fact is that these laws were established by your own government, and to quote your own government about how "awful" it is, is one of the greatest acts of ignorance imaginable. Don't ever forget that Shariah and Islamic Law, as it is functioning in Iran today, was established by the intervention of US military powers. This fact is so basic, yet it completely escapes your reasoning. If you don't know about, see it here: GoogleNews. And there is not any reason to doubt the authoritative power that British-American interests established themselves today in Iran. It's possible that the current power conflict between the two states may represent a disagreement between the two masters of these territories: the United States government in one, and the governor of an established colony, or "mandate," of British-American imperialism. I feel fully confident to say that you have no interest whatsoever in the case of Ashtiani, and your willingness to express deep ignorance on the political factors here proves it. Ashtiani isn't someone worth saving, but someone worth making an international case out of for your own prestige and glamor. You're trying to show a nation, established on American law, as being uncivilized for not being Christian. If they are brutal and vicious, they're nothing more than the pawns of your own government, and you're misdirecting all of your energies. The execution of Ashtiani, like those of American civilians, may be done by Shariah or Islamic Law. But, it is known that it is done by the instituted law of the joint operations of the United States and British governments upon seizing control of Iran in 1953. Call it Sharia or Islamic Law all you like, and there's a bit of truth to that description. But, don't forget that it is American Law, implemented by American military forces, and legislated by American politicians. How ironic, that you support the American government and the Bible, yet the government legislates the killing of adulterers, and god orders it. (Leviticus 20:10) The countless contradictions of your case are just overwhelming beyond belief. Please, pick up a history book before talking about these issues. Your understanding of Iranian politics is so inaccurate, that you may as well say that the Declaration of Independence of the United States was made against Mongolia. Thank you.
