The events of September 11th not only caused the destruction of the economic center of the United States, but it also fostered bigotry, prejudice, patriotism, and superstition -- sentiments that have always walked hand in hand. Together, these sentiments represent the culminating point of an uncivilized mentality. However, the topic of consideration in this essay is the last sentiment: superstition. With the fall of the World Trade Centers, many were quick to apply dogmatic assertions to the chaos. Some claimed that the world was going to end. Others claimed that World War III was beginning. Jerry Falwell has been noted in stating that the September 11th attacks were due to God detesting the United States for tolerating Homosexuals and other Liberals.[*1] Some offered Biblical evidence that this was the end of times (much like when Pope Gregory announced the end of the world in the year 600 and promised salvation to those who gave him slaves and land).[*2] Others, as this essay will examine, claimed that Nostradamus had predicted the fall of the World Trade Centers. One of the predictions quoted was as follows...

"In the City of God there will be a great thunder,
Two brothers torn apart by Chaos,
while the fortress endures,
the great leader will succumb,
The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"

Nostradamus 1654

Nostradamus made his predictions through poetry. However, this prediction that some have stated was proof that Nostradamus predicted the September 11 terrorist attacks was not even written by Nostradamus. In fact, this line of poetry has the date of 1654 attached to it when Nostradamus lived from 1503 to 1566. Other fraud, however, was added to this already false prediction....

"On the 11th day of the 9 month,
two metal birds will crash into two tall statues
in the new city,
and the world will end soon after."

Sprouting from these originally false prophecies were more and more prophecies, growing as the foul bog tree's roots spread through the minds of uneducated and ignorant people. Another example of the falsification incorporated into the prediction....

"In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror.
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city

"In the city of york there will be a great collapse,
2 twin brothers torn apart by chaos
while the fortress falls; the great leader will succumb;
third big war will begin when the big city is burning"

The only resemble to anything that Nostradamus actually wrote comes from Century 6, Quatrain 97. The original version reads....

"Cinq et quarante degrez ciel bruslera
Feu approcher de la grand cité neuve
Instant grand flamme esparse sautera
Quand on voudra des Normans faire preuue."

An English translation would approximately read....

"Five and forty steps the sky will burn
Fire approaching the large new city
Instantly a great thin flame will leap
When someone will want to test the Normans."

Only the two first lines were actually utilized in conjuring up the fake Nostradamus predictions. The rest of it, concerning the "two brothers torn apart by chaos," the "11th day of the 9 month," the "two metal birds," the "city of york," the "new century," were all added by falsifiers of truth.

However, for the sake of the argument, allow us to assume that these predictions that Nostradamus made were in fact real. Let's say that he did in fact predict that on the eleventh day of the ninth month, two metal birds would crash into two brothers in the city of york. Even if he did make that "clear" of a prediction, could it actually be called a prediction? I highly doubt it. Did anyone say, "Be careful around New York city around September 11th in the new century. Everybody knows that Nostradamus predicted that it would be the target of chaos."? Did any person make any of these statements, or did anyone make any statements even close to such? Did Mayor Rudy Juliani dispatch more police officers, more fire fighters, and the National Guard to deal with the catastrophe, which was well predicted as the Nostradamus advocates claim? Since the World Trade Centers are actually very much like "two brothers," why did so many people crowd into them on September 11th? Especially since, as the Nostradamus advocates contend, they had "undeniable evidence" that the World Trade Center would be the target of terrorist attacks that day? The fact is, the predictions by Nostradamus are vague enough as they are. To further belief in the predictions of their hero, many individuals added and combined lies to the already existing prediction. The only prediction that could possibly refer to the events that took place on September 11th, however, is "Five and forty steps the sky will burn; Fire approaching the large new city." As side from the lies of these psychic predictions, the only thing that is more exceeding in those who believe Nostradamus claims is their gullibility. With unbelievable vagueness and false components, individuals tried to assert that Nostradamus predicted the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. These predictions and the belief in them remain as a focal point in human credulity.

To be more specific of what he said: "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'" From CNN, "Falwell apologizes to gays, feminists, lesbians," (September 14, 2001).
