IcariusWhen someone said they were drinking a protein shake, I told them that the average American overconsumes more protein than is necessary. We got into a debate. Sure, nutrition may be the dullest thing possible and the only reason I'm well versed in it is because I'm a knowledgeable Vegetarian (Vegan, even), but the debate itself and how it was executed is a bit edgy. Also, I'm Icarius, and even though I called most of his arguments, I'll point out where to clarify certain things. Although I never told him that some of his arguments were Ad Hominem Abusives, they were there in plenty. Check it out...

Icarius: Before, I believe I said something about protein intake being too exceeding. Since I want a scientific credit to my name, the exact resource: "The protein intake of the average American excretes the generous level recommended by the National Academy of Sciences by 45 percent." [Resource: Francis Moore Lappé, "Diet for a Small Planet," pp. 28-29; see also "The New York Times," October 25, 1974; "Medical World News," November 8, 1974, p. 106.]
Oriumpor: That was fricken 30 years ago... today, I'd say it's like 90% more
Icarius: Probably.
Bahgeera: You quote a french scientist? Wow, I really believe you now. *jerk* *jerk*

An irrelevant attack on resources. One's ethnicity does not make their claims any less reliable.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Thats a bunch of crap you sinful foreigner. An average man can consume and put into utility, 150 grams of protein a day. Anymore of that is flushed out through your liver. Yes, it you have 300 grams of protein yer gonna get sick. but one protein drink a day, containing 30 grams of protein per drink doesn't do anything but help. especially when you're lifting every 3 days where your muscle fibers demand it. AYE

Anonymous Authorities -- where's the resource on this information?

Sauron: shut up about the fucking protein already
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Excuse me? No one tells Jimmy to shutup you head of oil.
PoF: your stats are wrong anyways you dont know what your talkn bout heh
Scryb: Well my daily intake consist of Fried Chicken, Watermellon, Pigs Feet, Strawberry Soda, Endo, and COLT FOTY FIGH.
Judas: you forgot the caligreens
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: And by the way, if you drink a lot of soda, you better be getting 150 grams of protein
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: I don't think you'll need excessively larger amounts of protein if you lift weights.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i just try and get around the max a day
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: But, you see, the only way not to get enough protein is to be starving. Even if you only eat bread, rice, and potatoes, you'll get enough.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: nope
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: Your muscle growth relies on protein
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: so a person that doesn't lift uses i dunno 50 a day
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: a dedicated athelete, especially one who uses the gym needs 100 a day because it's burned in excercise and muscle growth
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: and with all the shit we eat today
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: If a person eats just wheat, rice, and/or potatoes, the only way they will not get enough protein is if they are starving. [Resource: In the first edition of "Diet for a Small Planet" (1971), Frances Moore Lappé]
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: [. For another account of the adequacy of plant foods as far as protein is concerned, see Keith Akers, "A Vegetarian Sourcebook," Chapter 2. Original Resources are United states Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Statistics, 1979; United States Department of Agriculture, "Nutritive Value of American Foods" (Washington, D.C., U.S. Government Printing Office, 1975.]
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: we need protein because all of the artificial shit is dissolved by phosporous and calcium. If we dont have enough calcium and protein while working out at the same time then our bones become brittle atr later ages
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: it depends what you do
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i lift, so i try an get lots of protein
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: as well as with a good diet
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Wrong again. Although increased calcium has shown to temporarily increase bone mass by 2%, it stops when the excess amount of calcium is no longer taken.
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: [RESOURCE: "Worrying About Milk" by Will Hively in Discover magazine (August 2000, Volume 21, Number 8).]
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: your response was totally irrelevant to the previous point i just made

If someone makes a point with factually incorrect information, then there is a possibility that the point also is Non-Sequitor, or it does not follow.

Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Still, it was inadequate. Anyway, you can get enough protein without a protein shake.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: yes you can
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: but i like having more protein in me
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: mental and physica motivation if anything at all
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: But most of it is excreted or just wasted.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i dont think it is
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Scientific studies have confirmed that.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i've noticed better results
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: in my body
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Yours is just one case, and still, possibly placebo effect, and still, not entirely scientific.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: I regain my str earlier
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: instead of waiting 4 -5 days, im not soar after 3-5
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: er 3-4
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: One of the better things you could do for your body is eating dark green vegetables, instead of taking a protein shake which has no effect.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: and it's not me being deceived by my mind, i dont feel soarness
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Post Hoc, though. Have you done Double Blind Test?
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i eat pretty well

This person is entirely unscientific. Not only do they rely solely on their own experience with excessive protein, but they also fail to test out what it is like to avoid drinking a protein shake. A person could say, for example, "John is breathing. I have telepathic powers. Therefore, my telepathic powers are making John breath." It is to assume that one thing causes the other when there is no evidence of one thing existing without the other and how it functions.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: and then at night, with a glass of milf, i just put one scoop of protein powder
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: or after workout
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: one a day
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Heh, that's horrible. Milk has Vitamin D.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: maybe it does help, maybe it doesn't
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: how in the lords prayer is that horrible
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: It leaches away from Calcium. Causes osteoporosis.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: lol

Ad Hominem Abusive #1.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: sugar causes cavaities
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Milk causes bone deterioration.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: if you tell me milk is bad for you then im going to end this conversation

Ad Hominem Abusive #2. Not only that, but also a lie

Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Then do so. If you're so unskeptical that you'll believe what any milk commercial to Icarius, then your gullibility exceeds your ignorance.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i read about it
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: milk is great for you

Anonymous Authorities.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: every health doctor in the world reccomends milk
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Argument to Authority. Just because every health doctor does recommend milk, it doesn't make it healthy. And what about the scientist Campbell, who has done research and found that milk is harmful?
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: maybe in excessive ammounts where you don't have any other minerals to balance out the others
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: too much of anything is bad for you
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Actually, not at all. 90% of Asians cannot digest milk and they consume more vegetables than any other ethnicity, yet they show strong signs of healthy bones. Furthermore, the FDA has stated that the only reason it calls milk healthy is because it is better than soda or beer, which the average American consumes mostly.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: say again
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Actually, not at all. 90% of Asians cannot digest milk and they consume more vegetables than any other ethnicity, yet they show strong signs of healthy bones. Furthermore, the FDA has stated that the only reason it calls milk healthy is because it is better than soda or beer, which the average American consumes mostly.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: heh, well, i have different oponions than ye
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: This isn't opinion. This is scientific fact.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: next thing you'll be telling me is that a bannana is actually a cows penis and water is actually a cows sperm
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: i've read differently
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: False Analogy.
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: And Slippery Slope argument.
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: And Anonymous Authorities. =) Whoo.... You love your false arguments, eh? =)

To state that you've read differently without offering resources to your claims is the false argument of Anonymous Authorities. To state that I will go on to make more "absurd claims" is a Slippery Slope argument. (For example, if a mayor increases taxes by 1%, and a citizen says, "Don't pay it! Next thing you know, it'll be up by 20% next week!" That is a Slippery Slope argument.) False Analogy is when he compared a completely scientific, resourced, and referenced claim to something that has no relevance to this conversation.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: false arguements?
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Ad Hominem? Strawman? Post Hoc? Etc.? It's formal debating, I guess.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: you mean i have to go research and find the names of the people who said "jumping on spikes is bad"? common sense man

Obviously, this person is very ignorant when it comes to logic and debating.

Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Names? Those aren't names, necessarily, of people, but rather Latin. Similarly, it takes little research and there are many sites on it. And, as often noted in formal debating, those are commonly accepted false arguments. (Or, at least, they are accepted commonly to just be false.)
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: lol, you look at everything in one dimension

Ad Hominem period.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: debating rules?
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: where in the hell do you live?
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Hehe.... Not rules, but general common false arguments. Ad Hominem = "To the Man." It means insulting someone. Person A: "Scientific tests show that eating meat is unhealthy..." Person B: "Well you're an ass!"
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: lol, ok, i'll drink my milk
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: you haven't convinced me at all

And the echo in the hall of ignorance wails beyond the whisper of reason.

Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Heh, I see that your mind is immune to science and reason. May as well depend on faith, then, aye?
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: actually, 1580 on the SATS *proven by science, the SAT is a REASOning skill*

Federal Testing is inadequate, to say the least. According to the MCAS tests, as far as writing is concerned, I am worse than the average student in the school I attend.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: I'll start a scientific tone too =)
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Argument to Authority -- just because you're a 1580 on a federal test for school doesn't mean that you're still ignoring scientific evidence and accepting fallacious claims.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: and dont even begin telling me i dont consider scientific evidens
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: I read on this stuff alllll the time

Anonymous Authorities, again.

JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: so i dont put bullshit into my body
Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: I quoted resources, you did not.
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: just release it
JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818 to Icarius: so what? Your argueing from the text, im arguin from my knowledge

Icarius to JimmY RiGg eDd ITCB 818: Excuse me?

He never did respond to that. To say that you are arguing from your own knowledge is one of the most absurd claims I have yet to hear when you have no evidence. One person can say, "5 + 5 = 11! I know this because I am arguing from knowledge!" If someone shows evidence otherwise, they could just respond, "So what? You have evidence, but I am arguing from knowledge."

IcariusThis person I debated was wholly unscientific and did not present even the slightest bit of evidence for being so called "well read." Later on that night, he went by me and said, "PROTEIN RULES!" Apparently an ignorant person believes they can prove their point by monotonous and excessive repetition. Also, if you're interested in learning more about nutrition, read the essay, "The Essential of Vegetarianism," which I have composed only a short time ago.
